Ski Culture

Skiing is about the powder...fresh, light and fluffy snow on the top of a solid base, that means as you ski you enjoy the exhiliration of face shots of powder. Sometimes so much that you choke, cough and splutter and inevitably grin uncontrollably to the point of laughing. It is an addiction.

Unless you have skied and experienced the joy of fresh snow you probably won't understand. But in winter the town of Nelson lives by snow, to the point that many work places in town have a 20cm rule. No kidding, in the morning folks will check the snow report via phone or internet to see how much fresh has been dumped on the local ski hill. If it is 20cms or more you can bet that half or more of the town is at the ski hill....atleast until late morning when people have had their fix of powder and are ready to face the rest of the work day.

Nelson is not a ski resort, it is a ski town. In our office this is very apparent as we juggle schedules to make sure that someone is on hand to answer the phone and e-mails and that we all get a fair share of faceshots throughout the week.

And after all that's what Wild Earth Adventures is all about - loving being in the outdoors with great people, in great places. It's all about the balance - even if it means 6am starts in the office to make sure we can afford a few hours skiing later in the day!
